Kids In The Kitchen

As part of its 2015-2016 initiatives, JLL continues its exciting program, Kids in the Kitchen. Kids in the Kitchen is a nationally recognized health education program that empowers youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues. In partnership with United Supermarkets and Covenant Healthcare, the JLL will work to impact the lives of area children for healthier lifestyles through hands-on events throughout the year. By providing fun, family-oriented solutions to healthy living, kids and youth are encouraged to be active participants in their own health and well-being.

The JLL Kids in the Kitchen program features the following events:

  • Camp Healthy Kids is a week long summer day camp for young girls in 4th and 5th grades that teach them nutrition, preparing healthy snacks, exercise, and positive body image.
  • Events in the fall and spring at local United Supermarkets teaching children and their parents how to make healthy food choices and sampling foods that taste great and are good for your health.
  • The ROK – Reaching Our Kids – is an after school ministry for at risk kids and JLL participates in a fall and spring event, teaching the kids about healthy nutrition, preparing healthy snacks, educational activities and fun exercise.
  • Covenant Event is held in the spring at Covenant Women’s and Children Hospital and is a day of fun activities for the children and their families to learn more about healthy living.

Kids in the Kitchen was founded in 2006 and is supported by the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) and more than 250 Junior Leagues around the country. For information on AJLI and Kids in the Kitchen, click here
